"Located midway between New York and Florida, Wilmington and the Cape Fear coast are far enough south to have mild weather year-round, yet far enough north to have four distinct seasons."

The influence of the ocean and the Gulf Stream, some 45 miles offshore, keeps Southeastern North Carolina's counties from being too hot or too cold. Cooled by sea and river breezes, summer temperatures are usually in the 80's. Seasons are mild, with 212 sunshine days and a mean average temperature of 63.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Average rainfall is 50.85 inches. Snow is rare, and the average winter temperature is about 50 degrees.
